Opening Conference of SFB 882
Veranstaltungsort: Ravensberger Spinnerei, Bielefeld, Germany
All of us are different.
Apart from physical features such as age or gender, humans are different by nationality and ethnicity, by culture, attitude and abilities as well as by their respecetive professions. But how is it that simply because of being different people in our society are treated differently, thus resulting in inequality? What are the mechanisms behind this?
The debate on these society-theoretically and social-politically relevant problems is in the focus of the opening conference of Collaborative Research Centre (CRC) (Sonderforschungsbereich (SFB)) 882 “From Heterogeneities to Inequalities”. The goal is to create new stimulations for the conceptual orientation of the social-scientific research on inequality. In this context, mechanisms of the genesis of social inequality in different and particular fields such as labour market, gender, education, justice or migration are supposed to be identified and systematized. This is an attempt to develop a reasonable understanding of the general rules according to which a society´s inequality structures are produced.
